Spring Break Health and Safety Tips
It?s the next best thing to summer vacation ? SPRING BREAK!
If you are planning to hit the road this year, these health and safety tips are for you:
Pack Smart
Don?t just grab your swimsuit and sunscreen when packing your bags for that sunny destination. Also remember to pack necessary medications, your insurance card and bug spray containing DEET (especially when traveling out of the country).
Be Travel-Wise
Traveler reviews on websites like TripAdvisor can provide you with great details on the resort, restaurant or activity you are interested in and help you plan accordingly. If the average review is poor (or worse!), save yourself the disappointment and choose something else.
Protect your identity by always keeping your wallet/purse with you or in the room?s safe. If you are paying with cash or traveler?s checks, don?t waive these around in plain sight. You never know when a would-be thief could be watching. Call ahead to your credit card company and let them know about your trip. The company will be able to include this information in your file and this will prevent denial of any charges if the company thinks someone has stolen your card.
The old adage, ?There is safety in numbers,? is absolutely true. If possible, travel with a friend or group rather than alone. Watch out for one another.
Stay in Touch with Home
Make sure and give your trip details such as flight numbers and hotel information to someone who is back home. Keep in touch with that person daily, even if just a short text message, to let them know what you are doing and that you are safe.
Don?t Advertise Your Vacation on Social Media
Announcing on social media that you?ll be out of town is basically an invitation for potential robbers to prey on your home. By keeping your vacation plans between you and your family until you return home, you?ll ensure that you return to a full house. One step better, have a trusted friend or neighbor stop by to turn lights on and off and check on your house.
